Civica Group, a system and outsourcing services company in the UK, has won a contract to provide a vehicle-based automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) solution to the police forces of Warwickshire and West Mercia.
Under the contract, Civica will provide ANPR solution, standard speed enforcement system and digital video recording capability to 62 police vehicles.
Both police forces entered into an alliance in 2015 to provide efficient and effective service across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
The two forces decided to update infrastructure and implement common solutions and standards. Both police forces were customers of Civica.
Civica has developed a bespoke solution for the alliance. The solution will deliver real-time information to support activities such as operational response, traffic management, road safety and offence investigation.
A standard speed enforcement system will help track target vehicles, and in-vehicle digital recording will record external footage and occupants of the vehicle.
Data captured by the solution will be compatible with the central network. This will not only increase operational efficiency, but also help increase public safety and shorten investigation time.
Using the system, officers in the control room will be able to dial in to the system to view live footage.
The system is currently being incorporated in the fleet of BMW 3 and 5 series vehicles.
The Civica’s bespoke solution will be tailored to each vehicle’s role. The company is working with the project team and frontline operational officers to ensure uniformity of the design across all vehicles and is easy to use.
Civica supplies technology to 90% of forces in England and Wales.
